Craziest Allergies

Hello again blogosphere! Today, as the aptly named title suggests, I'll be naming and shaming some of the weirdest and craziest allergies. I myself am officially allergy free, which means I don't have any weird and wonderful intolerances. Naturally, I thought why not celebrate those who do? I promise you, by the end of this post, you're pesky allergies will seem positively average.

Allergy to Exercise

Doesn't this sound like the best allergy ever? Yeah, I thought so to, until I started investigating it. Sadly it seems even this seemingly awesome disorder comes with drawbacks. The condition is medically called cholinergic urticaria, and the symptoms include insane itching, major skin irritation and possibly a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction. And yes, this is all just from climbing a flight of stairs. Maybe we should all rethink wishing this allergy upon ourselves unless we want deathly itchy red pustules all over our skin. At least you'd never have to do practical P.E ever again (which TBH, is almost a deal I'm willing to make).

Allergy to Modern Living

Contrary to the last one, this allergy sounds absolutely abysmal. Picture a world without phones, computers, or even microwaves. I know, it's too awful to imagine. However, this a reality for heaps of people who suffer from this allergy, which is fancily named electro-sensitivity. Whenever these sufferers are remotely close to any form of technology, painful skin rashes form and their eyelids swell up to three times their size. That doesn't sound fun. Just think, how would you be able to check your Facebook notifications?

Allergy to Underwear

No, I am not making this up. It is in fact possible for someone to be allergic to their own underwear. And before you say anything, no, Britney Spears (probably) doesn't suffer from this allergy. Imagine it though, having to go commando all the time. How awkward would it be wearing skirts? If Marilyn Monroe had suffered from this, 'The Seven Year Itch' would be a very different movie. Apparently, symptoms range from severe rashes, itching and blisters, which wouldn't be fun to deal with. Next time you're suffering from some major chafing, just be thankful you're not red and covered in boils.

Allergy to Chocolate

This would just be the worst thing ever. Imagine having to say goodbye to all your beloved Lindt and Cadbury chocolates. It's just too awful to think about. Apparently, it's not the singular ingredients in the chocolate that cause this allergy, it's only when everything is combined that it seems to cause a problem for some people. And no, I'm not making it up, it's actually a thing. If sufferers were to delve into a block of chocolate, they would be met with itchy hives and major swelling. How do their lives have meaning?

Allergy to Deodorant

Put down that aerosol can and prepare to drive your friends away with your vulgar scent. That's right, some people are actually allergic to deodorant. If sufferers decide to live on the wild side and spray anyway, symptoms include itchy peeling skin, painful pustules and oozing lesions. Doesn't that just sound nice and awful? Before you judge the next person you walk past who majorly reeks of B.O, just think, they may be allergic to deodorant (or they're just super lazy).

So that's the end of my super short, allergy filled blog post. I hope you're all feeling normal, and are not too grossed out by some of these majorly disturbing symptoms. Til' next time . . .

  1. We were unclear as to the severity of her allergies with the skin tests...the doctor explained that for some children with very sensitive skin and eczema, they can have false positive skin tests because their skin simply over-reacts rocky mountain air purifiers
