Goodbye August: Hello September!

This blog post is an official welcome to the awesome month that is September! There are many good things to come, namely the fact that the American television season starts up again (and us Australians start downloading again). But before we delve into the awesomeness that is the month ahead, how about we reflect on the month we're leaving behind, with a list of the top 5 most memorable moments of August 2013 (at least in the eyes of teens).

5.  Justin Bieber

I've been deliberately brief with the title of this one, as the biebs has been going through an extensive rebel faze recently. No longer renowned for his clean 'cookie-cutter' image, the public has begun to turn against him, leaving his Beliebers in a dreadful mental state. I for one have never been a fan of his, quite the opposite actually. So, I have found his recent exploits to be quite entertaining. There have been countless occasions where his judgement has been somewhat flawed, including alleged incidents where he spat on his fans, got into a fight at a Canadian nightclub, and forced teen idol Ariana Grande to pose in a photo with him and post it on twitter. The escapades never end!

4. Photos Surface of North West

No, this is not a geography lesson. This is regarding Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's baby, named North West (what has happened to civilisation?). On August 23rd, the sought after photos of this famed baby were officially released. Personally, I'm not really a huge Kanye fan, as the music I frequently listen to (cough- musical theatre- cough) isn't really his style, and I still have no idea why Kim Kardashian is famous (having a reality show doesn't count, for anything, ever). So therefore, the release of these pictures doesn't really interest me a great deal, but as it's a popular teen topic, I've decided to include it.

3. Amanda Bynes becoming Mentally Unstable

Although this has been coming for a while (why Amanda why?), things have flared up in the Amanda Bynes case recently, her doctors stating that she requires 'a year in hospital' to clear up her mental health issues. Sure she's been wearing obviously fake wigs to court rooms, getting plastic surgery, and attacking every celebrity on twitter ever, but does that mean she has a mental illness? Now that I think about it, yes, yes it does. Guess there's no hope for a 'She's The Man 2'?

2. Lea Michele's speech at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards

Personally, I wish this was number one (especially considering what ended up winning the title). Lea Michele's heartfelt speech honouring Cory Monteith as she received her Teen Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy moved everyone in the audience. Of course I'm biased, being the massive Gleek that I am, but I think that everyone felt for her and the entire cast.

1. Miley Cyrus' 2013 VMA Performance

I don't think there's anyone on the planet who hasn't heard about this one (therefore earning its place as the frontrunner). Miley Cyrus' performance at the MTV Video Music Awards this year on August 25th has been the talk of the world (literally) for the past week since it happened, spawning countless parody videos and Facebook pages. The twerking, the teddy bear unitard, and the imitation Coles foam finger . . . why so cray Miley? My suggestion? Slap on a wig, move back to your Malibu beach house and resurrect Hannah Montana. At least people were only making fun of you then for being on Disney Chanel, and not for dancing (if you can call it that) in your underwear while slobbering all over the audience on stage at an award show that children are watching, scarring everyone for the rest of their lives.

So there you go, the most memorable moments of August 2013. Now, we can look forward to the poignant, entertaining, and possibly disturbing events that will happen in September this year. Til' next time . . .
